01 What they are
Cookies are small text files a site saves in a visitor's browser. They hold information between one page and the next, or between one visit and the following one.
02 Cookies used
This site uses technical cookies only.
| Category | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
| Technical authentication and session cookies | To recognise the signed-in user and keep the session active in the restricted area | Until the session ends, and in any case no more than thirty days |
| Technical language preference cookie (NEXT_LOCALE) | To remember the chosen language, so later visits open in that language. It holds the language code and nothing else | One year |
Authentication and session cookies are set only after signing in to the restricted area. The public pages can set a single cookie, NEXT_LOCALE: it is set when a page is read in a language other than English, in practice when Italian is chosen from the language selector. Reading only in English sets no cookies at all.
03 Consent
For technical cookies, article 122 of the Italian personal data protection code does not require the user's prior consent. The language cookie is one of them: its only purpose is to show the site in the language the reader chose. For this reason the site shows no consent banner.
04 Cookies not used
- Profiling, analytics, traffic measurement or advertising cookies.
- Third-party cookies.
- Other identification technologies, such as browser fingerprinting, tracking pixels or local storage used to recognise the user.
05 Managing cookies
Signing out of the restricted area deletes the session cookies. They can also be deleted or blocked from the browser settings, usually under privacy or site data.
Blocking technical cookies prevents access to the restricted area. The public pages can still be read, but every visit opens in English.
